Il vello d'oro. Antichi tesori della Georgia

Until 5 February 2012, the Mercati di Traiano hosts one of the most interesting archaeological exhibitions of recent times.

The exhibition is inspired by the ancient myth of the Argonauts and the ancient Colchis, the fertile land where the legendary fleece was guarded, and consists of 185 precious pieces from the Georgian National Museum. The exhibition highlights the first gold and bronze objects found in Kurgan, necklaces, pendants and jewelry of semiprecious stones. We then move on to the gold artifacts from archaeological sites Sairkhe Rooms and the main administrative and political centers of the kingdom of Colchis. Among the exhibits you will find small bronze heads of satyrs, maenads and a god Pan testify to the influence of the Greek colonies on the local cult. The course concludes with some extraordinary examples of jewelry of ancient Iberia, the kingdom "Kartli" East of Georgia.
