Neighborhoods in Rome

The neighborhoods of Rome, that's how divided Rome outside the city center!


The neighborhoods of Rome are the second level of toponymy subdivision of the city. As the center is divided into districts, the area just outside the historic center is divided into  neighborhoods or zones of the new development born only after the institution of the last quarter, Prati.


 

Some districts have changed names, such as district 15, "Milvio," which before the Second World War was called "della Vittoria" or the district 3, "Vittorio Emanuele III," which had the name of Pinciano. Other neighborhoods established after the war were a result of enlargement of the urban area and are 18 to 35. The city is now divided into 35 neighborhoods.

 

 

Flaminio
It is located in the north of Rome near the Tiber River. The neighborhood is part of the town hall of the Municipality of Rome II and is among the top 15 districts were born in 1911, officially established in 1921. The Flaminio neighborhood includes some interesting Roman sites to visit as the Ponte Milvio and the Museum Maxxi.


 

Parioli
Parioli is the name of the second neighborhood of Rome, which lies north of the city and is part II of the City Hall of Rome. Are part of Parioli: Flaminium Stadium, Auditorium and Villa Ada.


 

Pinciano
Pinciano is the third neighborhood of Rome, which is located in the north of the city, close to the Aurelian Walls. Falls entirely within the territory administered by the municipality of the City of Rome II and includes the Borghese Gallery, Villa Borghese, the Bioparco, the National Gallery of Modern Art and the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia.


 

Salario
The territory of the Salario neighborhood , the fourth quarter of Rome, is part of the  territory administered by the municipality of the City of Rome II and among the attractions to visit include the Museum Macro.


 

Nomentano
Normentano is the name of the fifth neighborhood of Rome and includes the area between Via Nomentana, the Tangenziale est and the Policlinico Umberto I.


 

Tiburtino
Tiburtino, the sixth neighborhood of Rome, is located in the east of the city, close to the Aurelian Walls and falls within the territory administered by the municipalities III, V and VI of the City. The district encompasses the City University, the Verano Cemetery, St Lawrence district and the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls.


 

Prenestino-Labicano
Prenestino-Labicano is the name of the seventh neighborhood of Rome, which is located in the east of the city, close to the Aurelian Walls. Part of the territory is administered by the municipalities VI and IX of the City of Rome and among the attractions you’ll find Porta Maggiore.


 

Tuscolano
Tuscolano is the name of the eighth neighborhood of Rome. It is located in the south-east of the city, close to the Aurelian Walls. Part of the territory administered by the municipalities VI, VII, IX and X of the City of Rome.


 

Appio Latino
Appio Latino is the name of the ninth neighborhood of Rome and falls in the territory administered by the municipalities IX and XI of the City of Rome. The district takes its name from the Via Appia Antica and the attractions include the Roman church of Domine Quo Vadis and the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella.


 

Ostiense
It is located in the south of the city, close to the Aurelian Walls and the river Tiber. Part of the territory administered by the municipalities and XI of the City of Rome and here you can visit the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls.


 

Portuense
It is located in the south of the city, close to the Aurelian Walls and the river Tiber. Part of the territory administered by the municipalities XV and XVI of Rome.


 

Gianicolense
Gianicolense is the name of the twelfth neighborhood of Rome and is part of the territory administered by the municipalities XV and XVI of Roma. The oldest part of the district occupies the hill of Monteverde, while the right side there are the other hills: Monte Mario, Vatican and the Gianicolo.


 

Aurelio
Aurelio is the name of the thirteenth neighborhood of Rome, which is located in the western city, behind the Vatican walls and the Aurelian Walls. Part of the territory administered by the municipalities XVIII and XIX of the City of Rome.

 

 

Trionfale
Is the fourteenth neighborhood of Rome with Q.XIV indicated. It is located in the western city, behind the Vatican walls. Part of the territory administered by the municipalities XVII, XVIII and XIX of the Municipality of Rome. The Olympic Stadium is located in this neighborhood.


 

Vittoria
Vittoria is the fifteenth neighborhood of Rome, administered by the municipalities XVII and XX of the City. It is among the top 15 were born in 1911, officially established in 1921 under the name of the Milvian renamed in 1935 as today.


 

Monte Sacro
Holy Mountain is the name of the sixteenth neighborhood of Rome and falls entirely within the territory administered by the City Hall IV.


 

Trieste
And 'the seventeenth neighborhood of Rome, II and IV administered by the municipalities of the City. It is located in the quadrant north of the city. In the district you can visit the Catacombs of Priscilla and the beautiful Coppedè Quarter.

 

 

Tor di Quinto
Tor di Quinto is the eighteenth neighborhood of Rome, managed entirely by the twentieth of the City Hall.


 

Prenestino-Centocelle
Prenestino-Centocelle is the name of the nineteenth neighborhood of Rome, which is located in the east of the city.


 

Ardeatino
Ardeatino is the name of the twentieth neighborhood of Rome and falls in the territory administered by the City Hall XI and a small part in the City Hall I.


 

Pietralata
Pietralata is the name of the twenty-first neighborhood of Rome and is administered by the municipality V of the City of Rome. In the district there is the Tiburtina station.


 

Collatino
Collatinus is the name of the twenty-second district of Rome and is part of the territory administered by the municipality V of the City of Rome.


 

Alessandrino
Alexandrino is the name of the twenty-third neighborhood of Rome and falls entirely within the territory administered by the City Hall VII.


 

Don Bosco
Don Bosco and twenty-fourth neighborhood of Rome and is administered by the municipalities VII, VIII and X of the City of Rome.

 

 

Appius Claudius
The twenty-fifth neighborhood of Rome  is administered entirely by the Municipality of X City of Rome.

 

 

Appio Pignatelli
Appio Pignatelli and twenty-sixth neighborhood of Rome, administered by the municipalities X and XI of the City of Rome.


 

Primavalle
Primavalle and twenty-seventh neighborhood of Rome and is administered by the municipalities XVIII and XIX of the City.


 

Monte Sacro Alto
Monte Sacro Alto is the name of the twenty-eighth neighborhood of Rome. It is located in the north-northeast of the city. Falls entirely within the territory administered by the City Hall IV.


 

Ponte Mammolo
The twenty-ninth neighborhood of Rome is located north-east of the city and is part of the territory administered by the Municipality V of Rome.


 

San Basilio
St. Basil is the name of the thirtieth neighborhood of Rome and is administered by the Municipality V of Rome

 

 

Giuliano Dalmata
Is the thirty-first Municipality V of Rome and is located in the south of the city. Falls entirely within the territory administered by the City Hall XII.


 

Europa
Is located in the southern quadrant of the city, near the river Tiber and contains the Eur district, the Museum of the Middle Ages, Pigorini Museum, Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions, the Planetarium and the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
