This itinerary takes you to discover the churches and the basilicas of the historic centre of Rome and Trastevere District.
It is highly recommended to walk from one place to another since all the locations are in the city centre. You could also choose to take a bus to get to Trastevere.
It takes about 8 hours to visit the locations mentioned, depending on how much time you decide to stop in each place.
The tour starts from Flaminio Train Station , also the subway stop "Flaminio" (Line A). Cross People's Square and take Via di Ripetta. A few hundred metres down this street, you’ll arrive at Ara Pacis, a historical monument of Rome. After visiting inside, continue on Via di Ripetta until you reach the two ancient churches of St Roch and St Jerome, both on the left before you get to Via Tomacelli. The first church was designed by the architect Valadier, while the second was entirely rebuilt in 1588 by Pope Sixtus V. Now take Lungotevere Marzio and continue in the same direction on Lungotevere Tor di Nona, until you arrive at Sant'Angelo Bridge. The statues of the angels by Bernini adorn the sides of the bridge up to the gates of Sant'Angelo Castle. We suggest you visit the inside of the castle, a truly unique experience! This tour continues towards Trastevere District. If you’re tired or don't want to walk along the Tiber River all the way to Trastevere, we suggest you take a bus (23, 271, 280..etc). Once you have arrived there the first church you should visit is Our Lady's in Trastevere Basilica which is filled with Roman mosaics. The itinerary ends with the visit at the Temple of Bramante on Via Goffredo Mameli.
