The Opera Theater in Rome (Teatro Opera Roma) was built in 1879; it was purchased by the City of Rome on a Mussolini's behest in 1926 and then took the name of Opera Theater. In 1958 for the Olympic games of 1960 the building was restored and modernized. The Roman theater is close to Roman National Museum and every season offers the best performances of italian opera. In fact Opera Theater has hosted the music of famous composers such as Pietro Mascagni and Puccini, conductors such as Otto Klemperer and Arturo Toscanini and many singers such as Enrico Caruso, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.
