Description

The MACRO, Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, is located in the ex-Peroni factory building, designed by Gustavo Giovannoni in the early twentieth century. It is one of the few examples of industrial architecture in the capital and was in fact a functioning beer factory until 1971. In 1999 the first phase of renovation and conversion of the site was completed and now hosts a permanent collection of contemporary art dating from the 1950s. The MACRO complex also includes a media library with multimedia workstations, a specialized library, classrooms, a bookshop, a café and a separate hall which hosts national and international exhibitions.
