Description
The Church of St Augustine was built in 1420 and restored several times thereafter. The facade of this roman church is in Renaissance style: on the right hand side after the entrance there is the sculpture of the 'Madonna del Parto' by Jacopo Sansovino (women come here to thank the Virgin after giving birth). The Church of St Augustine contains two Italian masterpieces: the first chapel on the left holds the 'Madonna of the Pilgrims' by Caravaggio, and on the third pillar of the central nave resides the only painting by Raphael to be found in the churches of Rome. The St Augustine Church is located between two important monuments in Rome, Palazzo Altemps Museum and Church of Rome's French community
