Description
The first church dedicated to San Lorenzo was built in the fourth century AD over the tomb of the saint. The church was later restored by Pope Pelagius II, who left undamaged sections of the ancient church still kept behind the altar. The church of St Lawrence was damaged in World War II during the bombing of the allies in San Lorenzo area. It is currently managed by the Franciscan friars.
