Description

The Theater of Marcellus, a great example of roman architecture, was built by Emperor Augustus in 17 BC and was the largest theater in ancient Rome seating 20.000 people. Later, during the middle ages, it was used as a fortress and a palace. The Theater of Marcellus in Rome is still a great example of Augustus period architecture and nice to see especially at sunset. At the roman theatre, visitors were able to watch many popular performances. Close to the Marcellus theater, you can also find the roman church of St Nicholas in Prison
