Description
The Status Civitatis Vaticanae, commonly called Vatican City is located on the other side of the walls of St Peter's Square and is the smallest independent state in the world. The official languages of Vatican City are Italian and Latin. The Holy See is an absolute monarchy, under the authority of the Pope, who is Benedict XVI (German Joseph Ratzinger), elected in the conclave of 2005. The administration of the territory of Vatican City is controlled by a Governor, Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, while the position of the Pope’s collaborator, for the Government of the Catholic Church, is held by Tarcisio Bertone. Visiting Vatican City you can see some of the most beautiful places in Rome such as St Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums.
