Description
The Vatican Museums, which are one of the world's largest roman museum complexes, showcases paintings and sculpture collected over the centuries by some of the most famous Popes. There's the Sistine Chapel, the Chapel of Fra Angelico, the Loggia Raphael and the Borgia's rooms. Julius II created the first core of the museum (1503-1513) which currently includes the Egyptian Museum, an Etruscan Museum, the Museum of chandeliers, the Museum of tapestry and the famous gallery of maps. For a good vatican tour visit also the Vatican Grottoes. To reach the Vatican Museums you can take the subway (Line A) and get off at "Ottaviano" or "Cipro", and walk for about 10 minutes. Otherwise take the bus number 49 which takes you right outside the entrance to the museum, or lines n 19, 32, 81, 98, get off at Piazza Risorgimento, about 5 minutes on foot.
