Description

Cavalieri di Malta Square is a peaceful little square named after the "Priorato dei Cavalieri di Malta" whose Headquarters is located here. The square is surrounded by green cypress trees and by a wall decorated with obelisks and military trophies. It was designed by Giovanni Battista Piranesi in 1765. Looking through the keyhole of the priory door you can see St Peter's Basilica. The complex was built in 939 AD as a Benedictine monastery.
