Description
Navona Square (in italian Piazza Navona) is one of the most famous squares in Rome and is shaped like an old stadium. In ancient Rome this area was the Stadium of Domitian built in 85 AD and could accommodate about 30,000 spectators. Navona Square is considered a prime example of the Baroque style: there are masterpieces by architects such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini (the Fountain of the Four Rivers: the Danube, the Ganges, the Nile and the Rio de la Plata, and the four corners of the Earth), Francesco Borromini and Pietro da Cortona. There is a famous legend that says the square is indicative of the rivalry between Bernini and Borromini: Bernini depicting the rivers gods in contrast to Borromini's church on the other side. During the evening Navona Square becomes a stage to roman nightlife many cocktail bars, restaurant, wine bars and night clubs are waiting for a really fun evening in Navona District!
