Description

Tiberina Island rests in the middle of the River Tiber and is connected to the mainland by two bridges, Fabricio and Cestius. For centuries the island has always been a Roman place of worship for different gods indeed is dedicated to the god of medicine Aesculapius for which was inaugurated a temple erected in 289 BC. On the island were built shrines dedicated to other gods, and throughout the Middle Ages until the present time the island has retained that sense of devotion and care, in fact there has been built one of the major hospitals of Rome, the Fatebenefratelli Hospital. Walking along the Tiberina Island you can admire the baroque tower of the church of St. John Calibita, alleys, squares, and during the summer, you can stroll among the stalls of the market of the Tiber Island, where you will find vintage accessories, jewelry, clothing, handmade items and many other curiosities, in addition to the cocktail bar and restaurants where you can relax on the banks of the RiverTiber. To reach the island from Termini Train Station, take bus H and get off at "P.za Monte Savelli."
